Meet Ethan

Two years ago Eva’s Heroes was looking for a band or a DJ to play for the annual Winter Wonderland dance.

The program director said, “I know Ethan (a participant); he loves to play music. Let’s get him to play!” We rearranged the date so that Ethan could provide the featured entertainment, and he brought the house down at that holiday dance! It gets better: an Eva’s Heroes staff member was looking for a DJ for her wedding. Yes, you guessed it, they hired Ethan, and he was a hit. Now, Ethan has a thriving DJ business, and we couldn’t be happier to have been his first community gig and the launching pad for his biz…ness. Go, Ethan!

Meet Olivia

At the age of 2, Olivia was diagnosed with autism. One of her parents’ worst fears was that she could not communicate.

Her mother’s worst fear was that she could not communicate. At age 5, Olivia began using assistive technology; by pressing certain pictures in sequence, she could finally convey her needs, e.g. that she was hungry, needed to use the restroom, or wanted to play with her brothers. Olivia has since made incredible strides and realized three lifelong dreams: She was crowned prom queen, graduated from high school and found a job she loves. When we at Eva’s Heroes learned that she enjoyed going to H-E-B, we helped get her an interview at one of the stores. The rest was up to her. Today, she is one of the happiest people in the world—bagging your groceries and asking, “How is your day?”!
